Powder coating is a method of applying a protective finish to a variety of materials and products. Powder coating is applied as a free-flowing, dry powder. The coating is typically applied electrostatically and is then cured under heat to allow it to flow and form a “skin”.
It is usually used to create a hard finish that is tougher than conventional paint. Powder coatings are stronger and more resistant to wear and tear. When powder coated, the color and finish will last much longer in UV rays, rain, snow and other elements that could damage your product. Powders also come in a wide variety of colors and textures.
The most commonly powder coated items are metals. Mild steel, stainless steel, aluminum, brass, etc. but others like wood and fiberglass can also be done. The practice of powder coating non metallic items is still new and therefore not reliable.
